After Neil Simon’s parents passed away, he wrote a very intimate trilogy about his family’s life. In the trilogy, he calls himself “Eugene Jerome”. The first play is called Brighton Beach Memoirs, and in which 15 year-old “Eugene” is growing up in Brighton Beach, New York during 1937. In the second installment, Biloxi Blues. “Eugene” recounts his experiences while preparing to leave for WWII service at boot camp in Biloxi, Mississippi.

The third play, Broadway Bound, takes place in 1949. Eugene and his brother Stan are still living at home and more than anything, they want to become comedy writers for a brand new media called television. As they deal with their parents’ impending divorce, the family’s world is upended when the brothers’ first radio broadcast features a thinly veiled, humorous portrait of their own domestic struggles.
